The infrastructure of the Pharmacy programme is divided into the following four departments:1. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICS
Pharmaceutics Laboratories help in training the students in drug formulations like tablets, capsules, parenterals, ointments, creams, eye drops, syrups, drug interaction, stability, shelf-life studies, etc. Different aspects of filling, packing, sealing, and labeling are studied by the students.
Various practical aspects of Pharmaceutics like Physical Pharmacy, Unit Operation, Dispensing Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology, Biopharmaceutics, Community Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, etc. are taught to the students.
Pharmaceutical Microbiology: This lab with its attached aseptic room as per GLP guidelines is suitable for preparation and sterilization of culture media both for static and broth cultures. It is also used for staining and identification of bacteria and fungi. The lab is suitable for the evaluation of antiseptics and disinfectants, for the determination of phenol coefficient, microbial assay of vitamins, antibiotics, etc.
Machine Room (Pharmaceutics Lab) 15 equipped with all the modern equipments and instruments related to the production and in house quality control of tablets, capsules, liquids and injectibles.
2. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY
Pharmacology department trains the students in subjects like Anatomy, Physiology & Pathophysiology, Pharmacology & Toxicology. Students are given facilities to understand different systems of Human Anatomy & their functions & pathology with tools like models, charts, permanent slides, bones, skeletons, etc. Here students learn about general pharmacology, drug dose, mechanism of action of drugs, screening of drugs, etc. Computer software for the basic demonstration of Pharmacology experiments is provided.
Animal House: According to the requirements of CPCSEA, the animal house is provided to facilitate learning of Pharmacological screening methods.
3. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOGNOSY
Pharmacognosy Lab is meant for isolation, separation, purification, identification and evaluation of medicinal plants by studying morphology, microscopy and powder analysis. The lab is also suitable for organoleptic evaluation of crude and natural drugs. The laboratory is also meant for extraction of active principles of crude drugs.
Students are trained in the various stages of natural drug research like different types of extraction, separation of groups of compounds, purification and identification of individual compounds and the re-characterization. Sophisticated instruments are used for the chromatographic and standard spectroscopic techniques.
Standardization of herbal drugs which is the major task in the present scenarios is also carried out by the students in this department as their project work for the qualitative & quantitative evaluation of Phytomedicine.
Museum: The Museum is filled with all kinds of educative anatomical models.
Herbal Garden: Herbal Garden at the Institute is used by B. Pharm. and D. Pharm. students working on herbal projects to grow plants for use in their experiments. Here herbs are cultivated according to their season to get maximum yield of useful components of herbal drugs.
4. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY
Pharmaceutical Chemistry Lab is meant for testing and identification of impurities; synthesis and purification of chemical compounds; identification of medicinally active compounds; and analysis of biological samples like urine, blood, etc.
Pharmaceutical Analysis Lab is suitable for analysis, quality assessment and quality control studies of drugs on finished products.
Central Instrumentation Lab provides instrumentation facility for students and faculty for conducting analytical practical & research work. This laboratory is well equipped with all necessary instrumental facilities such as:
COMPUTER LAB has high end configuration computers outfitted with advanced software and broadband internet connectivity. The laboratory is meant for learning and conducting practical as per the syllabus.
LANGUAGE LAB is an audio-visual installation used as an aid in modern language learning techniques. The language labs allow teachers to monitor, control, deliver, group, display, review and collect, audio, video and web based multimedia content. The student player is linked to the teacher console and can play audio, video and web based formats to make easy understanding of basic concepts
