MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of engineering, physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools.
This engineering field requires an understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricity. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering, and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and others.

Vision

To groom motivated, environmental friendly, creative Mechanical Engineers, striving continuously in pursuit of excellence, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Mission

1.To impart total quality education through effective hi-tech teaching-learning techniques and department-industries collaboration. 2.To mould young dynamic minds full of potential into full-fledged future professionals. 3.To fulfill the Government’s “Make in India” industrial policy through innovation and research.

Workshop

The objective of the workshop is to get hands on knowledge of several Workshop Practices like carpentry, fitting, welding, machinery, foundry, blacksmith, painting and polishing, sheet metal shop, etc and to learn safety regulations to be maintained in a shop floor. This laboratory is scheduled in the 1st and 2nd semester for all engineering students. Apart from the curriculum, some additional experimental setups are there which help the students enhance their knowledge. Students also get opportunity to implement their ideas through various application oriented micro projects.

Applied Mechanics Lab

The applied mechanics laboratory is used for both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Students have the opportunity to use experimental apparatus and compare results against that of accepted theory, developing and enhancing their knowledge of important scientific concepts.

Engineering Drawing Lab

Engineering Drawing and Design Labs aims to provide engineers with appropriate knowledge of drawing and designs of geometrical patterns, objects and 3-D structures. The students learn to construct various magnificent mega structures and intricate machines. Technical drawing is the language of engineering and is, therefore, indispensable.

Engineering Materials Lab

The Engineering Materials Lab introduces the concepts, techniques, and devices used to measure engineering properties of a variety of materials. There is an emphasis on measurement of load-deformation characteristics, failure modes and crystal structure. Experiments cover a range of topics: tensile testing, heat treating, impact testing, hardness testing, and corrosion of various materials while including data collection, data analysis, and interpretation and presentation of results.

Thermal Engineering Lab

Thermal Laboratory provides lot of opportunity to the students to study different types of IC engines, boiler performance studies and innovative projects. The performance test, heat balance test, retardation test and emission test can be carried out in a variety of IC engines like petrol/diesel fueled with single/double/multi cylinder engines with modern mechanical/electrical/hydraulic loading devices.

Mechanics of Solids Lab

Strength of materials laboratory is well equipped with destructive testing machineries. This lab course is offered in the second year for students from various departments in the school of mechanical engineering. Students understand the theoretical concepts of solid mechanics course and learn to apply it practically in this laboratory. Different types of tests are conducted in this laboratory as per standards (ASTM and IS) to know the various mechanical properties of a material such as young’s modulus, shear modulus, hardness, deflection, etc.

Hydraulics and Pneumatics Lab

The Hydraulics and Pneumatics laboratory is designed to examine the properties of fluids and to conduct experiments involving both incompressible and compressible flow. Facilities are available for investigating the fundamentals of fluid statics as well as kinematics and kinetics of fluid flow to enhance the hands-on experience of our students.

Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Lab

Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Lab gives on hands on practice with refrigerating circuits and air-conditioning systems. Apart from the curriculum, some additional experimental setups help the students enhance their knowledge. Students also get opportunity to implement their ideas through various application oriented micro projects.

CAD/CAM Lab

This is an important lab for diploma aiming to provide practical training in the field of CAD (Computer Aided Designing) & CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing).

Metrology & Measurement Instruments Lab

Metrology & Measurement Laboratory is a well equipped laboratory which provides hands on experience of various measuring instruments utilized in industries for evaluating mechanical properties of a given specimen or structure.

Theory of Machine Lab

Theory of Machine Lab deals with the study of relative motion between the various parts of a machine, and the forces which act on them. The main objective of Theory of Machines lab is to impart practical knowledge on design and analysis of mechanisms for a specified type of motion in a machine.
